Didima (Δίδυμα, meaning "twins") is one of the most photogenic beaches in southern Chios — a spectacular double-bay formation where two adjacent coves, separated by a rocky headland, create a dramatic natural composition unlike anything else on the island. The two bays have different characters. The northern cove is slightly larger, with a fine-pebble beach and calm, shallow water sheltered by the headland — ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The southern cove is smaller, rockier, and more dramatic, with darker pebbles and deeper water that glows an intense blue-green in full sun. Didima sits very close to Mavra Volia (about 2 km along the coast) but receives far fewer visitors, despite arguably being just as beautiful. The drive from Emporios village takes about 5 minutes on a good road. Facilities are simple: a small seasonal cantina and basic sun lounger hire in the northern bay. The southern cove is entirely undeveloped. Combining Didima with Mavra Volia (the black volcanic beach) and a stop in Emporios village makes for a perfect half-day in the south of the island. The contrast between Didima's twin coves and Mavra Volia's jet-black volcanic shore — all within 10 minutes' drive of each other — is remarkable.
Local Tips
Walk the path between the two coves along the headland for the best view of both bays together. Combine with Mavra Volia (2 km) and Vroulida beach for a full south coast day. Snorkelling around the rocky headland between the twin bays is excellent.

Two bays side by side, completely different characters. The northern one is calm for swimming, the southern one is dramatic for photos. Far fewer people than Mavra Volia even though it is just as beautiful. One of the best beach discoveries on Chios.
