Chios has a variety of accommodation — from elegant seafront hotels in Chios Town to atmospheric guesthouses tucked inside 14th-century village walls. Here's how to pick the right base for your trip.
🏛Best Base
Chios Town (Hora)
Walking distance from ferry port, castle, and restaurants
Chios Town is the ideal base for most visitors. You're a short walk from the Byzantine castle, the harbour, and the island's best restaurants. All ferry arrivals dock here. Taxis and buses to the rest of the island leave from the harbour.
Our Picks
Hotel Kyma
★★★★€130–220/night
Historic 1917 neoclassical mansion on the seafront promenade. The most atmospheric hotel on the island. Sea-view suites are exceptional.
Fedra Hotel
★★★€75–115/night
Central location, recently renovated. Good breakfast, helpful staff. 5 minutes walk from the ferry port.
Budget Rooms & Studios
★★€45–80/night
Several family-run studios in the old town. Search "Chios Town rooms" on Booking.com for the best options under €80.
🏖Beach Vibe
Karfas Beach
7 km south of Chios Town — resort-style, family-friendly
Karfas is the closest proper beach to Chios Town and home to most of the island's resort-style accommodation. Good for families, beach-first holidays, and water sports. Regular buses connect to Chios Town (~20 min, cheap).
Our Picks
Golden Sand Hotel
★★★€90–155/night
Right on the beach. Pool, breakfast included, water sports on site. Most popular hotel in this area.
Sunrise Apartments
★★★€60–95/night
Self-catering apartments with kitchenettes. 2-minute walk to the beach. Great for families or longer stays.
Karfas Studios
★★€45–75/night
Budget-friendly studios close to the beach. Simple but clean. Usually available without advance booking outside of August.
🏘Unique Experience
Medieval Village Stays
Mesta, Pyrgi, Volissos — unforgettable atmosphere
For something truly different, stay inside the medieval walls. Waking up in a 14th-century stone village with no cars, narrow vaulted alleys, and roosters instead of alarm clocks is one of the best travel experiences in Greece.
Our Picks
Mesta Village Rooms
★★★€65–100/night
Several families rent traditional stone rooms within the ancient walls. Search "Mesta rooms" on Booking.com or ask locally. Book early for summer.
Pyrgi Accommodation
★★★€60–90/night
Small guesthouses in and around the xistá-decorated village. Growing accommodation scene. Ideal for seeing the village at dawn and dusk.
Volissos Travel Houses
★★★★€90–145/night
Restored medieval stone tower houses in northwest Chios. The most unique stay on the island — rustic, private, and utterly atmospheric.
💡 Booking Tips
→Book early for July–August: Chios has limited beds and the good hotels fill up fast. Book 6–8 weeks ahead for peak summer.
→Mid-June and September are ideal: Better rates, fewer tourists, sea still warm enough (24–27°C). September especially is perfect.
→Most hotels in Chios Town are walkable from the ferry port (5–15 min). If arriving with Ferrylines from Çeşme, you can walk to many hotels.
→Booking.com and Airbnb have good Chios coverage. For medieval village rooms, also check directly with local listings or call the village office.
→If a pool is important to you, stay at Karfas — most Chios Town hotels don't have pools.
→Breakfast is often included in Chios Town hotels but may be extra at Karfas studios. Check before booking.
